Our Lady and the Rosary

In the Catholic Church, May and October are months traditionally dedicated to Our Lady and the Rosary. Mary, the mother of God, was a loving mother and a model for missionaries. The Rosary is a form of prayer that helps us to reflect on the life of Mary and Jesus. Every Friday in October, our Mini Vinnies are leading families in prayer before school. Today was our first family prayer time. We heard the story from Luke’s Gospel of when Mary thought that Jesus was lost – this is one of only a few stories of Jesus’ childhood in the Bible. We reflected on how Mary would have felt at this time. When Jesus said, “Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” we realised that this may have been the first time that Mary really began to understand that Jesus was God’s son. Mary was always faithful to God’s will. She was faithful at the stable in Bethlehem, she was faithful in the temple, and she was faithful at the foot of the cross. Mary quietly loved God and loved her family through that love. It is our mission to follow her example and be faithful to God’s will in our lives. We then prayed a decade of the Rosary together.
