Observational Drawing in Year 3
A post in our latest news section.

This term, the children in Year 3 have enjoyed developing their drawing skills in Art lessons. The children focussed on learning and practising the basic rules for shading when drawing, which are shade in one direction, blend tones smoothly and with no gaps. They found out that shading helps to make drawn objects look more three dimensional, and they discovered that ‘tone’ in art means ‘light and dark’. To develop their skills the children practised sketching classroom objects and plants and flowers. We even found a bright, warm day in which to go into the school gardens and sketch the plants and trees.
