Growing in Reception

A post in our latest news section.

The children in Reception have thoroughly enjoyed our topic on ‘Growing’. They have enjoyed listening to stories such as; Jack and the Beanstalk, Jasper’s Beanstalk, The Extraordinary Gardener and The Tiny Seed. They planted seeds with care and knew how to look after them. They checked on them each day for signs of growth and were very excited when they started to grow!

We explored ‘Growing’ in expressive arts too as the children painted flower pictures and used different materials to make flower designs. Our loose parts, manipulatives and play dough also helped immerse children into the theme of growing and reinforce some of our rocket words, such as: taller, stem, flower, roots etc.

We also explored Growth in RE as we read the book, ‘Once there were giants’ which reinforces human growth for children.

The children enjoyed reading and writing a range of fiction and non-fiction linked to our topic too. They are using their phonic knowledge to help them decode and blend words.
