French Culture Day

A post in our latest news section.

Year 6 enjoyed a number of different French inspired activities today celebrating French Culture.

On Monday we were visited by  author Adeola Sokunbi and she challenged us to create our own monsters, taking inspiration from the monsters in her story. So, we decided to combine this with French culture day and test out our French vocabulary. We designed our own monsters and described them in French!

Next up we created a French lesson, using our computing skills, for Year 2 for when they start to learn French. We designed a lesson around colours or days of the week. We had to add the French and English vocabulary as well as voice record each word to ensure Year 2 know how to pronounce each word.

Finally we had the chance to explore France and create a poster ‘All about France’ some of us chose to focus on French history, such as the French Revolution and others decided to focus on some of the countries facts and statistics or foods they eat and sports they enjoy.

We also enjoyed trying out a new style of art- pointillism. This style of art first founded in the the mid 1880s by French artists Georges Seurat and Paul Signac is a technique of painting in which small dots of colour are applied in patterns to form an image. We tried it out using a landscape.
