Careers Week

A post in our latest news section.

This week in school we have celebrated careers week. We have spent time thinking about what careers we would like to pursue when we are older and what skills/education we might need in order to achieve our goals. We were also lucky enough to be visited by Mrs Langford who talked to us about her role at Rolls Royce. She showed us all of the different jobs available at the Washington branch where she works. There were so many different opportunities: engineers, production line, production management, cleaning, maintenance and finance. It was fascinating to see how the parts for aeroplane engines are produced. She then led us in a fantastic STEM workshop. The class split into six groups and were tasked with designing a rocket, which we later launched, to see which would reach the highest altitude. The groups were given the materials and some basic instructions to follow. Team work was essential along with innovation and problem solving. The rockets were amazing and we definitely enjoyed using the launch pad to launch them. A big thank you to Mrs Langford for joining us, we thoroughly enjoyed it.
