Black History Month

A post in our latest news section.

Throughout the month of October, the children across school have been doing some lovely activities, all relating to Black History Month. This year, the theme for Black History Month across the UK is: Standing Firm in Power and Pride. The children have spent time looking at the achievements of black artists, as well as learning about significant individuals who have made great changes. Year 1 have spent time learning about Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Year 1 then looked at some beautiful artwork by the artist Alma Thomas. The children loved her work and were so excited to try and paint in the same style as Alma Thomas. In Year 2, the children learnt about what Black History Month is and then designed their own Black History Month flags. The children in Year 5 have done some excellent writing on Harriet Tubman and the significant changes she made. Well done everyone!
