During the Summer Term Year 5 have been very busy exploring the theme of Reconciliation and Inter-Relating. The children explored ideas around freedom and responsibility and considered key questions like: How can you enjoy freedom with responsibility and how can rules bring freedom?
Children began this journey by understanding the purpose of the Ten Commandments and they put themselves in the position of the Israelites travelling across Egypt. The children wrote their own diary entry explaining how the Commandment would help bring order and stability during a challenging time.
The children put their debating skills to the test when they considered the question ‘Should Sunday be a day of rest’? The children were able to give reasons for their own beliefs and recognise the view points of others, before arriving at a final judgement.
Year 5 also thought about Isaiah’s advice and they were able to make links between beliefs and the actions of Christians. The children created some beautiful posters encouraging us to live in the way God wishes.
Towards the end of term we looked at the Beatitudes and compared these Blessed Sayings to the Ten Commandments. Children worked together to identify the message from god and the reward for living a kind and good life.
This has been a very rewarding topic in R.E and the children have been able to link the learning to their own lives. Well done Year 5!
