This week the Year 5 children attended the Emmaus Youth residential. This was a fantastic trip where the children took part in different activities and recalled the story of St Peter, a fisherman who was called by Jesus to an extraordinary mission. The theme of this residential was Living Hope and the Youth Team encouraged the children to witness and share in God’s love as disciples today.

During the Celebration Liturgy the children produced some lovely arts and crafts and reflected on the gifts and talents that they have as individuals and as a whole. The children made brilliant banners with pictures of special memories on. They thought about St Peter who was taught to be courageous and not be afraid to follow Jesus.

Some of our children also took part in a Drama task for the Celebration Liturgy. The performances included children helping each other when one person hurts themselves, resolving an argument and forgiving each other. The drama clips rehearsed the Gospel story of Peter and taught us that Jesus never gave up on his disciples or others.

The children finished off their Liturgy by leading us all in a prayer session about mercy and asking God to help support us all through turbulent times. The children were left with a Mission to take forward of always remembering to have hope as we move through life on our journey.
