The children celebrated World Bee day 2026, we began by reading a story about bees and then watched and discussed a video about how bees make honey. The children were fascinated that there was a Queen bee found in each honey bee colony. Lots of our children said they had tasted honey before and shared the what it tastes like with those who hadn’t.
The child took part in lots of different activities developing lots of different skills such as fine motor, maths, creative, coordination and knowledge of the world throughout the day.

The children loved using their fine motor and creative skills to make bee hats and puppet bees using yellow and black wool to wrap around some card. They added some eyes, a mouth and wings along with a stick. They then flew the bees around the classroom. They were very proud of their hats and bee puppets.

Some children used their coordination skills to play a game. They wore a magnetic bee headband and had to move their heads to help the bee catch some nectar from the flowers and catch it in their bee hive. The children concentrated and focused really well, coordinating their movements with the bee headband to catch the nectar. They had lots of fun.

Finally, at snack time, the children enjoyed some honey on toast. They spread the honey themselves before eating it up. Most of the children said it was delicious. The children talked about how important it is to look after our bees so that we can get some more honey to have on toast. We have had a lovely World Bee Day 2026.
