This half term in Nursery, the children have been building on their previous pattern experiences and developing greater independence in their patterning skills. Through a range of engaging songs, rhymes and hands-on activities, the children had many opportunities to explore and practise creating patterns independently.
These experiences helped the children to consolidate repeated rhythms and rhymes, continue well-known phrases and recognise familiar story patterns. The children showed growing confidence in identifying and creating patterns throughout many areas of the provision.

As part of their learning, the children combined their mark-making skills to create patterns using both lines and circles, often designing wonderful sun-like shapes. They were encouraged to talk about and explain their patterns in their own words, making links to patterns they notice in real life, nature and artwork around them.
The children were also supported to make their own decisions and express their creative ideas freely. This resulted in many children independently creating their own AB patterns, such as red, blue, red, blue, red, blue. They were incredibly proud of their work and thoroughly enjoyed sharing and talking about the patterns they had created with both adults and their friends.
