Fr Chris’ visit to Year 2

A post in our latest news section.

Our Year 2 classroom was filled with excitement as we welcomed a very special guest, our Parish Priest Fr Chris, to talk to us about Palm Sunday. To help the children understand the significance of this special day that starts Holy Week, Fr Chris and Miss Dickinson led an interactive session exploring the story of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Rather than just listening to the story, our Year 2 students stepped right into the pages of the Bible!

The children took part in a re-enactment of the Gospel, acting out the arrival of Jesus. Our young actors did a wonderful job portraying the different figures in the story. The children got dressed up, laid their jumpers and cardigans on the ‘path’ and waved palm branches and cheered with joy.

Through our “frozen pictures”, the children were able to think deeply about how the people of Jerusalem felt – moving from the great joy of Hosanna on Palm Sunday and thinking about the solemnity of the Holy Week that was to follow.

We want to say a huge thank you to Fr Chris for his time and for making the liturgy so accessible and engaging for our children. It was a wonderful way for the children to connect their classroom learning with their faith.
