This half term the children have been working hard deepening their understanding of numbers 0-7. In Reception class, the children get a daily maths session and a daily mastering number session. These two formal lessons help children to secure the foundational skills for maths that are required at this age.
As well as these formal sessions, children have access to daily continuous provision activities in the Early Years setting and different maths activities are available each day. These activities are often linked to our topic and help children practice their maths skills in a fun, practical way. This half term our topics have included: Superheroes, Valentines Day and pets.
The children have also enjoyed watching Number Blocks on BBC I player, these visuals help the children understand the compositions of the different numbers. They also benefit from watching the Number Blocks Number formation song frequently to help with their number formation.
