Investigating Materials

During our work on materials in Science, the children investigated a range of materials to test whether they could be squashed, bent, stretched or twisted. We know that some materials can change their shape but they do not change size. It was interesting to see that even objects made out of the same material can be changed in different ways. We have also learnt about Charles Macintosh: he joined two pieces of fabric together and added a chemical solution to create the first waterproof material. We tested other materials this week to find out which were waterproof. The foil and cling film were very effective waterproof materials.
