On Friday Year 5 and 6 were visited by Northumbria Police to talk about ‘The internet and us’, which aimed to educate us on the dangers that come with using the internet, in particular social media platforms. We first thought about reasons why we use the internet and social media and discussed the age restrictions we thought each social media platform had.

We also talked about our digital footprint, realising that the things we do online, even when deleted still leave a trail. Next, we moved on to keeping safe online and the dangers of sharing personal information online. We were shocked to find out that some things people do online are actually classed as committing a crime! The law says you cannot make threats, bully or harass people online and if we do there are consequences such as visits from the police, formal warning, fines or being arrested. Lastly we reflected on how some decisions which may happen from now can affect us later on in life.
