Studying the Ancient Greeks

On Friday, Richard Stevenson – That History Bloke came to visit us in Year 3. The children are learning about Ancient Greece this half-term and That History Bloke makes our topics come alive. The workshop involved drama and dressing up as ancient Greeks. The children enjoyed handling some artefacts from Ancient Greece (or replicas) and exploring what they were and what they would be used for. Then the children practised carving their names into a wax tablet in using the Greek alphabet. The children also had great fun playing a Greek game called Pente Grammi with a partner, using five counters each. The aim was to be the first person to get all of your counters home. Everyone agreed that learning about the Ancient Greeks was fun and the children are looking forward to building on their knowledge throughout the term.
