Recently, Year 5 & 6 were very lucky to take part in a workshop centred around AI technology.
The principles of artificial intelligence (AI) revolve around creating systems that can simulate human-like intelligence, including learning, reasoning, problem-solving, perception, and language understanding. At its core, AI is built on data-driven algorithms that enable machines to identify patterns, make predictions, and adapt to new information. Year 6 had the chance to create their own algorithms to understand how AI works.
Ethical considerations, such as fairness, transparency, privacy, and accountability, are also central to AI development to ensure responsible and unbiased use. These considerations were explored by Year 5 in their session using Minecraft software. The children were really enthusiastic about using gaming software to learn about something new. It was a really fun way to introduce them to AI.
AI systems are designed to operate autonomously while maintaining safety and alignment with human values. These guiding principles help ensure AI technologies are both powerful and beneficial to society. A really valuable lesson for the children to experience moving into the wider world.
