This term Year 3 have been studying Stone Age Cave paintings in art. The children discovered that prehistoric people used natural materials from mud, flowers and berries to produce paint to decorate their cave walls. The children sketched an animal from prehistoric times in their sketch books and then they enlarged it using charcoal. The following week the children practised mixing their own paints using flour, spices and water. Next they made a cave wall using cous cous, and lentils and they painted it a cave colour. Finally the children painted a copy of their original animal sketch onto their ‘cave wall’. It was a messy job but lots of fun, and the results were amazing!
