Lunar New Year in Nursery

A post in our latest news section.

This month saw us finishing our learning of Lunar New Year also known as Chinese New Year. We began by reading the story The Great Race. The children were excited to learn that it was the year of the snake, this lead us into looking at what animal it was the year we were born. The children enjoyed lots of activities supporting their Understanding the World development as well as refining our fine and gross motor skills.

We really enjoyed our food tasting session, tasting some traditional Chinese foods, the favourite being the prawn crackers. Other activities that we enjoyed included making salt dough decorations, using chopsticks to make marks and using watercolours to paint our very own dragon masks. We concluded our learning by making a dragon costume and taking part in a Dragon dance throughout our Early Years garden.
